The account many residents and this blog have speculated is connected to former Berkley official Wendy Cochrane appears to be working overtime to launch Campaign 2027. Another enlightened social media comment has conveniently laid out what’s supposedly at stake this coming election season.
Like the mailman who delivers despite snow, rain, heat or gloom of night, Cochrane is putting on a clinic in work ethic on social media, despite now devoting what appears to be a full-time schedule to Facebook politics. Some say it’s the start of her second political career. Others believe she has decided to take on the mantle of Freedom Fighter, harkening back to a simpler but more loyal time.
For most, it has become clear. Wendy Cochrane is on a mission to dispatch the woke virus and Antifa from Berkley.
It’s almost like these yuppie scum don’t understand the proud traditions of Berkley. They call it bad names: nepotism, horse trading, shady deal making, conspiring outside of public meetings. In reality, this is a social compact that has defined and sustained our Berkley faithfully since 1735. But like all carpetbaggers they just want to move in and change everything right away.
The next thing you know, these two Twits(©Cherise Hoak), nominally acting like they run the Board of Selectwomen as they jokingly call it to put our big strong men down, are going to stop handing out health insurance to our friends who sit on elected boards in town. Now that they’ve getting their way, those women have instituted processes, ethical standards, and regular audits.
Which loyal Town employee will remain behind to wipe out late penalties on tax bills for their friends and Town officials? What about all of those agricultural property tax exemptions we’ve been able to secure for our people over the years at the expense of their neighbors? Are they coming for that next? So what if someone may have a machine shop that they call a barn. This is Berkley, we take care of our own!
They’ll probably want to move on to appointed assessors under the Big Lie of keeping it fair for everyone. Fair for who? Not those of us who made this town, those who built those open fields and forests. You don’t get your name over the door of a hearing room in Berkley Town Hall by taking care of out-of-towners buying their way in, that’s for sure.
Oh, they want to hold on to teachers and public safety workers? We can take care of ourselves, thank you very much. We don’t need no readin’, or writin’, or thinkin’. And keep your manicured hands off of our transfer station. These yuppies have no concept of priorities or what it takes for a long time trusted public official to make a decent living off a small town. It’s as if they don’t understand how government in Berkley is supposed to work.
First, they stole away our beloved salt shed in a move that was only meant to punish. Then they took away the transfer station on Saturdays while they’re home installing composting toilets, living green(whatever that means), eating vegan, and taking juice cleanses. What next, are they going to turn the main hearing room in Town Hall into a Pilates studio? Something needs to be done!
Thankfully, someone is keeping a watchful eye on Berkley. After public service stints in Berkley (decades), Norton (15 months), and Fairhaven (1 week), Wendy Cochrane appears to have discovered that retirement from local politics is more of a suggestion than a rule. Whether she’s campaigning, commentating, or simply making sure no Facebook thread goes unmonitored, Old Berkley can rest easy knowing someone is always standing guard over tradition.
We applaud her for her unique form of advocacy, as it helps this publication feed our families as well.
The Cost of Keeping Berkley Free
You know what’s worse than holding a meeting at 6PM and having 2 residents attend? Moving that meeting to 10:30 AM and having 3 residents attend. Leave it to Old Berkley to tell it like it is on this one. Big Mad Renee Gagne is spot on here. Two people changing the time of a meeting that almost no one regularly attends is absolutely a slap in the face to everyone who ordinarily skips the meetings.
What are those two Twits(©Cherise Hoak) going to do next, find 3 additional suckers and run them as candidates for elected office this spring? From the shadows? Only Old Berkley has earned the right to pull that lever. Those two need to sit back and observe how it’s really done, unless they think they too have the power to propel a mute and incapable write-in candidate to victory.
Thankfully Gagne has decided to traverse the Taunton river like General George Washington crossing the Delaware to ensure democracy, public input, and free speech for the people. The place to hash all of this out, as always, is social media. The people who have avoided attending meetings for decades have the right to be heard, even if they refuse to participate.
But why should we be burdened with public meetings when Facebook is where the people are? The meetings are boring. And if we don’t like what happens in them, we can’t delete those comments in order to preserve the superiority of our opinions. And we can’t block people with differing views from attending. That’s not good for our feelings.
When are these two Twits(©Cherise Hoak) going to get with the program and dispatch with these silly open meeting laws? It’s high time that these two out-of-towners meet the people where they and their multiple accounts are waiting to have an open and free form discussion about how they’re not getting in line with our misconceptions about all of these issues.
Who do they think they are? Someone should call the State ethics commission, Mass DOR’s Division of Local Services, Massachusetts State Police, the Attorney General, Secretary of State, FBI, DEA, ATF, EPA, MassDEP, OSHA, FDIC, SEC, FDA, the Taunton Gazette, Newsmax, Channel 7, Alex Jones, AARP, ASPCA and YMCA to get to the bottom of this right now.
Berkley’s future depends on it.
